Secondary School Transition

Transitioning to secondary school

Applications open on 1st September

The application deadline is midnight on

Thursday 31st October 2024

Moving from primary school to secondary school is an exciting time of life, but for many children it can also be a daunting prospect.

A new, much bigger school can offer greater independence, such as the first smart phone and/or travelling to and from school independently, and a world of opportunity. However, it also means new teachers, new subjects and potentially a whole new set of friends.

At Rockmount Primary School our children will participate in a transition programme which will shine a light on the great potential of starting afresh in secondary school and also offer practical advice and emotional support to help take the stress out of taking the next big step.

Our staff will actively support the mental health and emotional well-being of children as they start the next chapter in their lives.

All applications for school places are now made online with an eAdmissions account. Please take a look at the information provided to help with your application. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher or Vivian Bull (Deputy Headteacher).

Offers for secondary school places will be released on 1st March 2025

Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), you'll need to apply for a school place in a different way.

Applying for a school place using the e-admissions portal when your child has an EHCP will not be valid and your child may miss out on a school place.

If you need support with the process, please contact Amber Pearless (Deputy Headteacher) or Hayley Gorman (Senco)

Before you start your online application, you will need to do some research.

  • Visit your local authority’s website for details about how applications are processed.
  • Find schools in your area by using the Map on your local authority website.
  • Read the admissions criteria for the schools you are interested in.
  • Look at the school's website.
  • Visit schools (information can be found about in person or virtual tours on the school's website).
  • Check how places were offered in previous years.
  • You should check transport policies for local authorities (outside London).
