Year group Curriculum Map

The themes have been chosen to ensure that there is opportunity to cover all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Although specific areas of the curriculum have been highlighted, we plan for all areas to enable the children to experience a variety of play-based activities during their time in Reception.

If you have any queries, please contact the Class Teacher or the Learning and Teaching Leader for this phase, Amy Carvall, or email the reception team: receptionclass@rockmount.croydon.sch.uk

Please read our half termly curriculum letters for more information.

Autumn Term 1 - Fairy tales

What a wonderful time we have been having settling into our new environment and making new friends. Our topic this term is "Wonderful World of Fairy-tales" where we have been looking at traditional tales such as 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'The Three Little Pigs'.

We have been settling into school life by getting used to our school routines and building new relationships. It has been lots of fun exploring our new classrooms and getting to know our teachers.

Autumn Term 2 - Food and Festivals

This half term we have had the opportunity to explore seasonal changes and focus on food and festivals! We read stories such as ‘Pumpkin Soup’, ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘Oliver’s vegetables’.

We started our topic of 'Festivals and Celebrations' by introducing Bonfire Night to the children. We shared our own experiences and explored why we celebrate it in the UK. This term, we have been learning about how people celebrate Diwali. We created our own Rangoli patterns from chalk and learnt about the story of Rama and Sita.

Reception have also been looking at healthy choices and where fruit and vegetables come from. We sorted food into food groups and designed our own healthy plates.

Vibrancy in EYFS

See what we get up to with our vibrant Early Years curriculum. We offer a wide variety of multi-sensory experiences that are part of our day-to-day learning.
